My favourite tutorial is this one by Marja.
THE SIMS 2 CREATE A SIM BACKGROUND PC
You can of course make your own defaults if you play on a pc (I’ve not seen a tutorial that works for Macs I’m afraid). feydecay is doing her best to change this for the Victorian era with her on-going default project, and I recommend checking out her dreamwidth to see what she’s done so far. Then there is also the fact that there aren’t that many 19th century defaults out there (the late Georgian and Regency period is especially under represented). It changes the clothing or hair across your entire game, so if you play modern neighbourhoods alongside your period one, you have to remember to remove them before playing the modern hood. There are several disadvantages to using this method. They are also the only way to change the clothing of certain object npcs such as the local chefs, tour guides and food judges. Default replacements change the Maxis clothing and hair to something else, and, if the package is already made, just need to be dropped into your downloads folder. This is probably the simplest method if you can find them. Luckily today there are several simple (if time consuming) methods you can use to make sure that Sandy and Melisa’s love of fiery leg-wear doesn’t blight your period neighbourhood.ġ. When I started playing Regalton five years ago, it was something I just had to grit my teeth about and the readers of my story knew that I couldn’t do much about the Goopster turning up on a community lot in his lovely plaid shorts. Perfectly fine for the 1980s, not so much for the 1880s. The sims you have created look like they have stepped out of the pages of Harper’s Bazaar, but there in the background are your townies, wandering around in all their mini-skirted, midriff-baring glory.

Thank you for reading my wall-o-text.It’s a problem that plagues all themed neighbourhoods.

I'd like to hear peoples' thoughts and maybe even get a chance to flesh this out a bit more. Again, these are just the sort of things I think about when I try to predict what sorts of goodies we can expect from upcoming expansion packs.
THE SIMS 2 CREATE A SIM BACKGROUND FREE
Also, the rich, retired leader of the free world might find it really easy to improve the charisma skill and associate better with people in the political career while the runaway would be able to make acquaintances with almost anyone very easily because he has seemingly dropped out of nowhere. For example, a rich, retired leader of the free world could start off with loads of money while a poor runaway would start off with rather little. These could potentially even impact how much money your sim starts off with. These could range from things like "rich, poor, haunted (guilty about something), and heartbroken" to very specific things like being retired in a particular career branch. They could also potentially impact which types of sims your wim will get along with. The feature I was thinking about was for create-a-sim, and involves adding a new tab possibly titled "background." In it,the player could choose a number (maybe 2 or 3) different "traits" which, unlike the personality traits don't effect a sim's wishes, but rather the probability that a certain set of wishes will come up over another. While one can write these backstories in the biography for their sim, these events are merely for the player and do absolutely nothing to impact the sim behavior. "This sim's from a rich family but wanted to get away from the lifestyle and start with a clean slate from the bottom of the food chain." "This sim's a military retiree who lost his wife and is moving to Sunset Valley to get back on his feet." So on and so fourth. Well, whenever I create a sim, where they're from is almost as important to me as where they're going! In other words, I love to create backstory for my sims. Unless you've been living under a rock, you know how easy it is to modify personalities in The Sims 3. Anyway, I was contemplating some interesting ways to modify the Sims 3 (stuff I would like to see in expansions, perhaps), and I came up with this idea that I wanted to run through the forums and see what people thought. This is my first time posting on these forums but I've been ghosting about for some time taking in all the conversation and ideas and whatnot and decided I finally wanted to inject something of my own, so be kind, please.
